The aim is to review and enhance existing vehicle emissions standards and policies, ensuring they are aligned with national targets and commitments while addressing any identified gaps.

Objective

To develop policy brief for new vehicle emission standards (matching new fuel standards for Fiji)

Our Approach

Review existing targets, policies, regulations, & vehicle emissions standards

Examined national targets, commitments related to emissions reduction and determine the need for updating or preparing new vehicle emissions standards to align with these targets. Analyzed the current policies and regulations related to vehicle emissions standards and Assess the effectiveness and adequacy of the existing standards in reducing emissions.

Analyze & identify policy gaps in existing vehicle emissions standards

Conducted comprehensive analysis of the vehicle lifecycle stage (importation, registration, Use and Repair & Maintenance, and Scrappage & Disposal) and associated policies and standards and identify any gaps or deficiencies in the vehicle standards that hinder effective emissions reduction.

Develop policy measures to address identified gaps

Formulated policy measures, strategies to fill the gaps identified across vehicle lifecycle stage and provide measures/ recommendations that promote cleaner and efficient vehicles while considering technological feasibility and industry dynamics.

Evaluate impact of recommended policy measures and align with national targets

Assessed potential impact of the proposed policy measures on emissions reduction and ensure that the recommended measures are aligned with the national targets and commitments.

Validate recommendations through stakeholder consultations

Engaged stakeholders, including government agencies, industry experts, environmental organizations, and community representatives and incorporate their feedback on vehicle emissions standard and policy brief.
