The aim of this assignment is to understand the existing motorbike market in Rwanda and its market dynamics with a focus on determining TAM, SAM, and SOM for an e-bike assembler and battery swap service provider in Rwanda. The technical part of this study also includes undergoing technical due diligence on the aforesaid e-bike assembler and battery swap service provider.

Objective

The client wanted to understand the total market opportunity for an e-bike assembler and battery swap service provider in Rwanda and through Technical Due Diligence (TDD) get inputs to decide on conditions for proceeding with the investment in the subject company.

Business Model Evaluation

The two-wheeler market in Rwanda was analyzed, including the estimation of the Total Addressable Market (TAM) for e-bikes. Additionally, the competitive landscape, total cost of ownership modeling, and business models for e-bikes were assessed, comparing them with existing ICE motorcycles and other e-bike manufacturers in Rwanda.

System Validation

A comprehensive list of essential documents across different vehicle and related systems like battery, motor, charger, etc. was prepared to validate and verify the company’s claimed operations. Multiple consultations were done with the company to gather preliminary information, access the data room, and subsequently collect the necessary documents, followed by a site visit for in-person data collection and physical examinations.

Risk Assessment

The company's product capabilities, performance, manufacturing processes, sourcing strategies, quality control mechanisms, and team capacity were assessed. Additionally, technical moats and risks impacting business operations were identified, and the climate risk on the company's assets was evaluated alongside recommendations on mitigation measures

Percipient Report

Prepared a percipient report for the client, synthesizing Rwanda's market opportunity, TCO analysis of offered products, and a technical assessment (including SWOT), enabling informed investment and strategic decision-making.

Outcome

The client was provided with a comprehensive due diligence covering product, process, and team capabilities, identification of technical and operational risks, climate vulnerability of assets, and targeted recommendations to improve resilience, efficiency, and investment readiness.
